Millions of men in the United States search for answers about changes in their body as they age. One of the most common changes related to men’s health today relates to sexual health and performance. At 25 Again, medical experts treat thousands of men dealing with these issues in a variety of ways. Most treatment plans involve a multi-faceted approach involving medications, supplements, and in-office treatments with advanced technology. One of the newest in-office tools is known as acoustic wave therapy, or AWT.
Acoustic wave therapy is based on an evolving form of medical practices that came from the study of shock wave therapy. Studies on shock wave therapy began after soldiers during World War II complained of injuries caused by sonic vibrations. In many cases, these were found to have occurred without signs of any normal external physical trauma. The technology that caused such injuries has become highly refined and is now being used to treat a number of medical conditions. These include erectile dysfunction, Peyronie’s disease, tendonitis, plantar fasciitis, and bursitis.
During the last year, the medical experts at 25 Again recruited a specialist to focus entirely on providing health benefits from acoustic wave therapy to men suffering from issues with their prostate, erectile dysfunction, and Peyronie’s disease. The new specialist, Richard, quickly filled up his schedule as men from across the Louisville area sought help for problems that many of them had been experiencing for years. Here is a list of the common questions Richard has helped answer for members recently. What is acoustic wave therapy and how does it work?
Acoustic Wave Therapy (AWT) is also known as shock wave therapy. However, the term “shock wave” has become old hat, or pretty generic. The term misleads many of our members to think they will be shocked with electricity. No one wants that, of course! AWT actually works by using a sound wave of varying energy in order to trigger a process in our bodies called: neovascularization. Simply put, neovascularization is the formation of new functional blood vessel networks for better circulation. This is especially important for millions of men, who suffer from Erectile Dysfunction, or ED.
How does acoustic wave therapy help men?
Our members are constantly asking me about this new, cutting edge treatment. It has been used in Europe since 2000 with tremendously positive results but it is just becoming known in the United States. today is being used in the US. Based on my experience, acoustic wave therapy helps men in several ways. Men who benefit the most from acoustic wave therapy are members suffering from ED and/or Benign Prostatic Hyperplasia (BPH). BPH is what medical personnel refer to when talking about age-associated prostate gland enlargement. BPH makes it difficult for some to urinate. We also believes it plays a role in sexual performance, specifically getting and maintaining an erection. In addition to helping reverse ED and BPH symptoms, acoustic wave therapy also helps relieve long term pain. So, for those who suffer from joint pain in the knee, elbow, neck, shoulder or lower back, whether it’s from daily use, age or an old sports injury, AWT and I are here to help. Most importantly, this is a drug-free, safe, effective, and totally non-invasive treatment with zero downtime.
Why did you choose to pursue a career as a Special Procedures Technologist?
First and foremost, I enjoy the ever-changing challenges medicine brings into our lives. With that being said, I searched for a career meeting those challenges. I wanted a career that continues to evolve with the advancements in science and technology, which led me to a career in Special Procedure Technology.
What does a typical day at 25 Again look like for you?
My day begins with a safety check and calibration of the acoustic wave therapy machine. This ensures we always provide our members with the safest, cleanest and most effective therapy. My day continues with performing AWT on men who suffer from ED & BPH. In addition to using acoustic wave therapy to improve sexual health, we also have some members who are starting to ask for this to be used as part of a treatment plan for chronic joint pain. I am helping both men and women with these issues on a regular basis.
